A 100% tariff on foreign films, while hypothetical in the context of Trump’s U.S. trade policy, would be widely criticized as economically counterproductive, culturally regressive, and legally dubious. Why is it ABSURD and an economic self-sabotage?

This would also trigger “Domestic Job Losses” in USA because foreign films distributed in the U.S. rely on American companies (e.g., Sony Pictures Classics, A24) for dubbing, marketing, and theater coordination. Do are there alternatives for Trump to achieve his stated goals? If the goal is to "protect American culture" (a common protectionist argument), better solutions include:
- Tax incentives for American indie filmmakers.
- Funding for American arts education to nurture domestic talent.
- Expanding international co-production treaties because a 100% tariff on foreign films is a self-defeating policy that would provoke retaliation against Hollywood’s global profits, stifle cultural exchange and artistic innovation, violate trade agreements and constitutional principles, and enrich piracy networks while harming U.S. distributors.
